Raised in a musical household, Brett Rechtfertig eventually began playing guitar at age 11 after falling under the spell of rock innovators Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, and Jimi Hendrix. By high school, Brett was performing original music and opening up for national rock and metal acts.
While pursuing his Bachelor’s degree at Boston’s Berklee College of Music, Brett studied guitar performance in the jazz, funk, fusion, American roots music, Gypsy jazz and blues idioms. Another large part of Brett’s education centered on arranging for 11 and 12-piece jazz ensembles, extending Brett’s knowledge beyond merely guitar and offering a “big picture” approach to music and ensemble playing/writing.
As a teacher, Brett is committed to exploring what each student is drawn to about music, and giving them pathways that will continue to unfold and bring personal satisfaction. Brett believes that all students have the ability to achieve their musical goals, and that time, passion and energy are the only requirements.
When he is not teaching, Brett is performing and recording with his own rock/jazz project, The Mindful. You can find The Mindful’s music at www.themindfulband.com.
